Bitrace CEO Invited to Deliver Blockchain Forensics and Investigation Training to Hong Kong Judiciary

Bitrace CEO Isabel Shi was recently invited by the Hong Kong Judicial Institute to deliver a series of specialized training sessions on blockchain forensics and digital asset crime investigations. Held at the High Court Building in Hong Kong, the sessions were attended by judges from various courts, alongside law enforcement officers from relevant regulatory and enforcement authorities.

Titled "Digital Assets: Talk on Enforcement and Common Offences," the training covered key topics including digital asset crime investigations, on-chain fund tracing, money laundering techniques, and digital evidence preservation.

Drawing on her experience serving as an expert witness in multiple major virtual asset-related cases in Hong Kong, Isabel shared practical insights into blockchain investigations, digital evidence preservation, and the process of translating complex on-chain analysis into evidence that can be examined and evaluated in judicial proceedings.

From On-Chain Fund Tracing to Digital Evidence Preservation

During the first session, Isabel introduced how blockchain transaction records can be used to identify common criminal activities involving digital assets. She examined on-chain money laundering techniques, crypto-to-fiat laundering pathways, and the methodologies and tools used in blockchain investigations and forensic analysis.

Beyond technical investigation methods, Isabel drew upon her experience as an expert witness in major Hong Kong cases to discuss how findings from blockchain analysis can be properly documented and presented as evidence in legal proceedings.

Although blockchain transactions are transparent and traceable, complex fund movements, the challenges of linking wallet addresses to real-world identities, and the need to corroborate information from multiple sources can significantly affect how digital evidence is interpreted and used.

Investigators must therefore go beyond tracing transaction flows. Proper evidence collection, preservation, analysis, and presentation are equally essential to ensuring that investigative findings are reliable, transparent, and independently verifiable.

Applying Expert Witness Experience to Real-World Investigation Challenges

In the second session, Isabel focused on off-chain evidence sources and key challenges encountered by law enforcement agencies when investigating digital asset-related crimes.

Drawing on her practical case experience, she discussed how on-chain transaction data can be corroborated with off-chain evidence, how complex transaction flows can be analyzed and explained, and the technical limitations and evidence preservation considerations investigators must address.

In virtual asset-related legal proceedings, blockchain forensics involves more than identifying the movement of funds. It requires a rigorous, transparent, and verifiable analytical framework.

Bridging the gap between complex blockchain data and evidence that courts can understand, scrutinize, and evaluate is a critical aspect of applying blockchain forensics in judicial proceedings.

Bridging Blockchain Forensics and Judicial Practice

The invitation to deliver specialized training to members of the Hong Kong judiciary reflects Bitrace's expertise in blockchain analytics and digital asset investigations, while highlighting the practical relevance of its investigative experience in judicial contexts.

As a specialized provider of cryptocurrency risk monitoring, on-chain fund tracing, and blockchain forensic analysis, Bitrace remains committed to improving the accuracy, reliability, and verifiability of digital asset investigations, providing technical analytical support for complex virtual asset-related cases.
